Has anyone migrated to the new version 3 yet? What are your experiences with it, as compared to the previous 2.x version?

We have been relatively happy with the previous version, and of course would like to stop even more spam, or have even more configuration capabilities, reporting, etc... but because we host many email domains, we can't upgrade without serious consideration...

So, for anyone that's taken the plunge, what's your experience with it been like thusfar?

Thanks,

Am I going to be the first to try it?? I thought I was on the list for notification of this upgrade! I just decided to go to the website & only could find out through the Forums & general to find out they had a new 3.0 version.

Has anybody tried the even the Beta??

Thanks for any info!

Jon

Yeah... by the lack of any kind of response, I'm more than a little bit nervous to make the upgrade myself...

I've migrated to version 3.

The use and efficiency of the spamfilter is identical to the previous version. In fact, very little has changed.
I 've got no problem with that, it works fine....

BUT: Every few days, NST just stops accepting SMTP sessions, blocking all incoming mail. Restarting the NST service seems to solve the problem, but I have had this problem now 3 or 4 times.

NST is installed on a Lotus Domino 7.02 server, wich runs on a Win2003 standard server. I never had this problem with the previous version of NST, and apart from NST, nothing else has been changed on the server.
The server is P4 - 2GHz machine with 1,5GB of RAM and a very light work load.

I have not been able to link the occurence of this problem to any other event. Looking at the log, there's very little to learn. It just stops. No errors.

I'll kee you informed.

The new DNSBL filter is very likely to reduce the CPU load on your NST server, please give it a try.

We would very much like to see the last few minutes of the log file when this happens. Please enable detailed logging, and maybe you can mail it to us.

With version 3, you can configure the Windows Services Manager to automatically restart the service in case it crashes.

Hi,

Detailed logging wasn't enabled. It is now.

Today I finaly found some time to dig in the problem. It is related to restart of the Lotus Dominoserver. For some unknown reason, the Dominoserver was halted, and (like it should) it has restarted automaticly. The NST service also restarted at the same time. It seemd to be up and running, but no response to SMTP requests. After the normal startup lines, nothing is added to the log anymore.

Strange:
In the log of the domino server, it looks that all SMTP calls fromt the outside are connecting directly to the Dominoserver. I can see all the different IP addresses of the mailservers trying to connect, while normally I can see only the one IP-address of NST that connects. All connections are disconnected immediately, giving an error line in the logs: 'Authentication is not enabled'.

My configuration:
The dominoserver has one network adapter with two IP adresses. NST is listening to IP1 and forwards the mail to IP2, handled by the dominoserver.

It looks that one way or the other, the incoming SMTP requests are not handled by NST anymore. Simply restarting the NST service resolves everything.

here is the log of NST. The first restart was done automaticly during the night. The second restart (at 14:10) was done manualy by me. As you can see: after the automatic restart, nothing happens. After the manual restart, things got back to normal.

I've upgraded and it went very well. The only issue I ran across was that the White/Black list from my v2 setup did not get converted over to the new filters. I had to cut and paste from my local.cf into the newly added black and white filters in the filters area. No biggie. But I do think this should be done auto-magically. Otherwise, I'm pretty content..

Thanks for the details you provided, and what you report fits well to a problem we diagnosed just yesterday.

Under some very special circumstances, the NST service will stop responding at midnight, or after restart. The problem is more likely to occur on sites receiving very heavy message traffic.

We have prepared a fix that will be part of the next release, probably some time next week. The new release is being slightly delayed because we want to include the new 3.2 version of SpamAssassin.

Ok, thanks for dealing with this problem.

Our server doesn't have to deal with to much mail traffic (500-700 messages /24h), but after a restart, Lotus domino does put a havy load on the server for some minutes. So that can be the cause...

Thanks again and I'm looking forward to install the fix.

Hello!
i tested new version of NoSpamToday and this error began to appear very often (3 time per hour):

EventID:1000
Source:Application Error
Faulting application noSPAMtoday.exe, version 3.0.1.2, faulting module noSPAMtoday.exe, version 3.0.1.2, fault address 0x00106597.

and the service nospamtoday stopped unexpectedly
____________________________________________
During update from previous version my settings are transferred not completely("Reject by HELO" are not transferred and were lost)
____________________________________________
White List filter skips all another filter, even antivirus filter, it's may be unsafe... this is my personal opinion
____________________________________________
HELO/REJECT event:
May 15, 2007, 00:52:46 Session 0: HELO mx.poczta.onet.pl
May 15, 2007, 00:52:46 Session 0: Host/helo reject: 201.228.198.99/mx.poczta.onet.pl
May 15, 2007, 00:52:46 Session 0: 421 You are disconnected for policy reasons, please try again later

If I casually close the necessary server I shall not understand it. Usually users know the address of the sender, instead of the address of a post server. From a log i don't see who is sender and recipient.

Thank you

To find what is going wrong, please mail us the log files (the last few minutes before a crash). Enable detailed logging to get more info.

Do not forget to configure the Windows Services Manager to automatically restart the service.

You will still find them in the noSPAMtoday.cf file, if you view this file with a text editor.

You can still use the SpamAssassin only whitelist filter, (whitelisted addresses are kept in sa\ruleset\local.cf).

Perhaps we will add an option to the virus filter some time in the future, if the virus filter should still be applied to whitelisted messages. Let's first hear what the user community thinks.

The host is disconnected before it can issue the RCPT TO or MAIL FROM commands, so there are no addresses. Use this only for hosts were you are sure that they never send legitimate mail, or use this setting temporarily only when you are flooded.
