my setup is windows 2000 server sp4 with two local ips (10.0.0.12 for lotus domino smtp and 10.0.0.13 for this smtp proxy)

here are the errors from the log
Nov 02, 2005, 21:08:53 WinSock 2.0
Nov 02, 2005, 21:08:53 (tcp) Valid name, no data record of requested type
Nov 02, 2005, 21:08:53 No Spam Today! Service V2.3.3.2 Freeware shutting down

seems like a dns error, but don't know how to resolve it.

i get this when using the Test btn on the proxy setup admin screen and the service won't start. i have verified that port 25 on both IPs is only bound to the appropriate ip

This looks as if NoSpamToday! tries to look up a host named "tcp" using DNS.

Please check your Windows network settings for the two interfaces in question, especially the hostnames for these interfaces. In NoSpamToday!'s configuration, try to use the IP address instead of the hostname.

It doesn't seem to matter what i use (ips, hostnames, blanks), i get the same error. these two IPs are assigned to the same NIC. i have checked my dns server, hosts file, no sign of 'tcp' as a hostname. 'ping tcp' does not get a response which is expected.

i have been using this ip setup with GFI mailsecurity (on this server) for quite a while so i am pretty sure it is not a hostname/dns issue.

any other suggestions?

still can't run the sw on my server.

what type of dns lookup is attempted when using the 'test' btn on the incoming/outgong smtp proxy config page? this might help me debug my problem

If the outgoing server setting is an IP address, there is no DNS lookup at all. A symbolic name will be looked up.
Likewise, a non-numeric port value would be looked up in the services database, so "smtp" usually translates to port 25.

if no dns lookups occur, what is the next step in the process for the test btn.

on my test server installation the test btn appears to send an email from sender@example.com.

who is it sending it to? what dlls or os calls are used to send this test msg?

can any one shed some light on this

turns out my
HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\DataBasePath
was wrong. it should point to %SystemRoot%\System32\drivers\etc

i think some spyware must have changed it once, but i never noticed a problem.

this was causing the problem originally mentioned in this thread

now i can get on with setting up NST on my server
