DNSBL before mail arrives [message #186] Tue, 21 August 2007 15:38

Hi there,

Would it be possible to have a DNSBL check around the HELO/EHLO response, or at least before the body of the e-mail is received? That would enable mail to be rejected before it could use too much bandwidth. Of course, this wouldn't be compatible with /redirect or /deliver policies...

Thanks,

James.

The hostname/IP submitted in Helo/Ehlo is already checked by the DNSBL filter, though only after the mail has been (at least partially) transmitted.

This would help reduce resource usage, but wouldn't improve filtering results. At the moment I say that the benefit is too little to warrant this change, but thanks for suggesting this!
