Hello,
we're getting a mailstorage failure message:

Session4: (Mail Storage) Buffer size exceeds limit
Session4: Incomming mail action: reject/delete (mail too large)

The harddisk has 14 GB free space.
( where ) Is there any setting for the mail storage Buffer size ?

You can change the Message Size Limit (default is 20480 kByte) in NST's Global Settings.

Shouldn't that trigger before any filters are processed ?

Is it possible to set a failure message for messages that are too large ?
"rejected due to policy reason" is quite common, so the sender is not able to recocnize, that his mail's too large.

Did NST respond with a 550 or 552 error code? 552 means the message was too large....

Unfortunatly that's not reported in any log. So i don't know. ( Only the sender's getting the message )
But we had other cases, similar failure messages like this:

Nov 02, 2006, 14:09:59 Session 4: (McAfee Antivirus) Buffer size exceeds limit

in this case the sender was getting a 550 error, and he was quiet confused. ( me too )
He said the mail was small. Maybe something else is responible for the buffer size errors.

So i doubled the buffer size to let the mail server behind reject mails that are too large.
Now we have to look whether "buffer size" messages are still appearing.

In my opinion the Mail size should be checked first and eg. if a mail's larger than 20MB it has to be rejected with a "mail too large" message without processing any filters anymore.

If the sender isn't getting the 552 error message (they'd see in in the bounced mail), then a support request should be made to NST... as a fix or feature enhancement.
